The great monsoon 2016 expedition has begun!

Eugene Thieszen and myself trekked from Oklahoma City to western New Mexico to begin our monsoon chase excursion. Our first day was likely more successful than any day we had out here last year when we gambled on super late-season monsoon action (and largely lost). This year, we got off to a great start with plenty of storms and plenty of lightning bolts!

Our first storm was observed east of Albuquerque, NM.

From there we trekked east to the area around Grants, NM where we caught some good strikes.

And then it was time to head west as storms near us dissipated where we caught some brilliant lightning near Gallup, NM.

And then? It was time to head to the hotel to sleep and prepare for day two.
