Continuing our look back at season one of Tornado Titans is today’s webisode, “Tempest on the Caprock”. This day features our May 18, 2010, storm chase where we documented several tornadoes from Dumas to Stinnett, TX.
This was a classic Panhandle moderate risk day in May, with our initial target being the area just north of Amarillo. Anyone who knows the Texas Panhandle knows that roads are at a premium in this part of the Panhandle, but storms are oftentimes quite pretty.
We chose to make the day happen, as everything worked out great — with a supercell firing in our target area in the afternoon.
There is another part to this chase day included in season 1, the part that shows what happens when you flirt with a baseball-plus size hail core in order to get a view of a tornado in the HP notch.
Up until that point, as shown in the video below, we were having a great chase day!
