Supercells in New Mexico
Yesterday I had the chance to get south after work and capture a pair of pretty structured supercells near Socorro, NM. The first had a nice look as it moved near the Ladrones (the site of our last chase so it may look familiar). That pic is above. This storm was the stronger of the two I think with a well defined RFD and FFD and some sculpting aloft. It pulled up scud intermittently, but never really showed it was serious about full rooting into the surface layer as it never fully turned right. Still, it looked pretty dramatic at times as it moved across the desert.

The second supercell was more dramatic than the first in the electric nature of the storm! As I approached this cell near Magdalena, gargantuan CGs rained down all around us. I managed to get the 360 camera on the roof and the thunder booms are going to be something to behold once I get that video up — but that 10 seconds was by far the scariest of the day. A really cool storm; you can see a vague wall cloud and updraft behind the bolt, obscured partially by a strong/overhanging FFD.
