Scattered Storms Around the Southwest/Southern Plains Today
Several areas will see renewed storm development behind this mornings’ complex of storms in an atmosphere somewhat supportive of a strong to severe storm this afternoon. The main area we’re watching lies across Central New Mexico into the Panhandles. Shear is moderate with weak to even moderate instability in place.

Hail and damaging winds will be the primary threat with storms this afternoon in an atmosphere that moderately supports supercells. The overall environment strongly supports smaller LP type of cells today, which leads to a lower overall tornado threat and the real likelihood that storms will be shorter lived due to entrainment effects aloft.
